FAQs

Q: What is the primary function of this 5kVA 50kV AC/DC Hipot Tester?

A: This tester is designed to verify the dielectric strength and insulation integrity of electrical equipment. It can perform both AC (Alternating Current) and DC (Direct Current) high potential (Hipot) tests up to a maximum of 50,000 Volts.

Q: When testing a 10kV cable, the current quickly reaches the maximum value before the voltage rises, and the test cannot be completed. What's the problem?

A: This is due to insufficient power of the 5kVA 50kV device for the tested cable. For example, a 100-meter, 35-square-millimeter 10kV cable has a large capacitance load. The 5kVA capacity is not enough to drive it during AC voltage withstand testing. You can switch to DC voltage mode for the test (the device can output up to 70kV DC) or replace a hipot testing set with larger capacity to meet the load requirements.

Q: After troubleshooting the tested product, the fault indicator on the instrument is still on and cannot boost voltage. What should I do?

A: The instrument may have a temporary system fault after detecting an abnormality of the tested product. Simply turn off the power switch of the hipot testing set, wait for 1 - 2 minutes, then restart the instrument. This can reset the protection system, and normal voltage boosting can usually be carried out afterward.

Q: The instrument can work normally in AC mode, but the DC output voltage is much lower than the set value. What's the reason?

A: It may be a fault in the device's internal DC rectifier module or the high-voltage rectifier components. First, check whether the high-voltage cable between the control box and the test transformer is connected correctly. If the wiring is normal but the problem persists, it indicates an internal component failure. Do not disassemble it by yourself; contact professional maintenance personnel to inspect and replace the rectifier parts.
