Product Overview
|
A 1200 kV, 90 kJ impulse voltage test system for lightning impulse full-wave and chopped-wave testing of equipment rated 3.3–110 kV and below - transformers, switchgear, insulators, reactors and cable accessories - with full-wave and chopped-wave output from one system. Every impulse test re-run costs a production slot, a scheduling gap and a written explanation. Most failures trace back to one of three things: a generator too small to hold the wave shape under real load capacitance, a divider whose response distorts the recorded waveform, or a chopping device whose scatter makes consecutive shots incomparable. The 1200 kV / 90 kJ impulse voltage test system is built to remove all three. It holds its voltage utilization factor at 90% or better for load capacitance up to 2000 pF and 85% or better up to 4000 pF, so the wave shape stays inside tolerance on large specimens as well as small ones. |
Application
Rated 1200 kV with 90 kJ of stored energy, the system covers the impulse testing needs of equipment rated 3.3–110 kV and below:
Power transformers - lightning impulse full wave and chopped wave
- High-voltage switchgear and circuit breakers
- Insulators and bushings
- Load-break switches
- Reactors
- Cable accessories and terminations
The body can be connected with two or more stages in parallel, which offers two practical advantages: a minimum test voltage of 20 kV with a single stage for small specimens, and reduced step-up time for routine production testing.
working Principle
- Set the charging voltage and adjust the ball gap - manually, or let the automatic ball-gap tracking move it to the value the control system calculates.
- Select the output polarity. The motorised drive turns the rectifier stack to the chosen polarity and the state is shown on screen.
- Configure automatic trigger, alarm-on-arrival and continuous discharge if you need repeated shots; set the shot count and the interval between shots to the second.
- Press ON - the grounding switch opens and the main contactor closes.
- Press Start. Charging begins. If you need to hold, press Stop; press Start again to resume.
- Review the waveform on the Tektronix TBS2012 oscilloscope. The software extracts wave parameters automatically and exports a standard report.
- Press OFF. The automatic grounding switch short-circuits the capacitor bank through the protection resistor.
Above 70% of rated voltage the system runs one charge–discharge cycle every 60 seconds continuously; below that, one every 30 seconds. That keeps throughput predictable during a long acceptance run.

Safety Built Into the Sequence
A key switch prevents unauthorised operation. Over-voltage and over-current limits on the primary side and on the single-stage charging voltage trip the main contactor with an alarm. The emergency stop is wired independently of the PLC and acts directly through hardware, so it works even if the controller is unresponsive.
An automatic grounding device short-circuits the main capacitor bank and earths it through a protection resistor whenever the test stops, which is the first line of protection for anyone working on the test floor.
fAQs
Q: Do you support on-site commissioning?
A:Yes. Commissioning and a training session are delivered on site, and the system is accepted jointly with your team - waveform measurement, over-voltage and over-current setting tests, emergency stop test and a full-load flashover test repeated three times.
Q: What happens if the controller fails during a test?
A: The emergency stop is wired independently of the PLC and cuts the main circuit directly through hardware. When the test stops, the automatic grounding device short-circuits the main capacitor bank and earths it through a protection resistor.
Q: Can consecutive shots be compared directly?
A: Yes. Chopping dispersion is below 100 ns and charging voltage instability is held within ±1.0%, so repeat shots remain within tolerance of each other and can be overlaid for comparison in the analysis software.
