1. For ultra-low frequencies with a nominal voltage less than or equal to 80 kV, a single connection structure (amplifier built into the controller) is used. Ultra-low frequencies above 80 kV have a series structure (two amplifiers connected in series), which significantly reduces the overall weight and improves load capacity.

2. Current and voltage data are taken directly from the high voltage side, so the data is accurate.

3. Intelligent comprehensive protection function: without setting current and voltage protection values, the device can calculate overvoltage and overload protection values based on the sample capacity size and test voltage value. It can also provide protection against voltage and current mutations, so it can record discharge situations. The protection response time is less than 20 ms.

4. Uses a 150 kV high-voltage line output, which is safe and reliable.

5. Due to the use of a closed-loop feedback circuit, the output has no capacitance increase effect.

6. The new product is supplemented with direct current and dielectric losses, which allows synchronous measurement of dielectric losses, capacitance, and insulation resistance of the test object during withstand voltage testing

Q: What is Very Low Frequency (VLF) testing? Why use 0.1Hz?

A: Ultra-low frequency testing subjects equipment to withstand voltage tests using an ultra-low frequency sinusoidal voltage of 0.1Hz (or 0.05Hz). The 0.1Hz frequency is chosen because it requires only 1/500th of the power capacity needed at power frequency (50Hz) for high-capacity equipment like long cables. This makes the equipment highly portable and easy to transport and operate on-site.

Q: What are the advantages of ultra-low frequency testing compared to DC testing?

A:The primary advantage of UHF testing lies in its ability to more realistically simulate operational conditions, effectively detecting insulation defects that DC testing cannot identify. It also avoids generating harmful space charges within insulation, preventing damage to materials like cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE).

Q: What does the 80kV voltage rating signify?
A: 80kV denotes the peak voltage output by the tester. For 0.1Hz ultra-low frequency testing, its equivalent power frequency AC withstand voltage is approximately 80kV / √2 ≈ 56kV (RMS). This voltage level is suitable for preventive testing of 10kV or 35kV rated cables.

 

Q: How long should the test duration be?
A: Generally, the "time-frequency inverse" principle applies. A common standard is: at 0.1Hz frequency, the withstand voltage test duration is typically 60 minutes (or longer). The specific duration should strictly follow the equipment manufacturer's specifications or relevant industry standards (e.g., IEEE 400.2).
