SF6 Gas Density Monitor and Relay Calibrator: Introduction & Functions
In the operation and maintenance of high-voltage power transmission and transformation equipment, SF6 gas density relays and density monitors are core protective components that ensure the safe operation of GIS equipment and high-voltage circuit breakers. After prolonged operation, factors such as temperature cycling, mechanical fatigue, and seal aging can easily lead to issues such as shift in operating thresholds, contact misoperation, and monitoring inaccuracies, which directly threaten the insulation safety of the power grid and the stable operation of equipment. Against this backdrop, specialized SF6 gas density monitors and relay calibrators have become essential standardized calibration equipment for power operation and maintenance organizations and testing institutions.
Unlike conventional pressure measurement devices, dedicated SF6 calibrators are equipped with high-precision temperature and pressure sensing modules and standard temperature compensation algorithms. They can uniformly convert on-site measured pressures to density values under standard conditions at 20°C, eliminating the interference of ambient temperature and enabling true gas density calibration-rather than mere pressure measurement. The device supports two modes: offline calibration in the laboratory and online calibration on-site without disassembly. It eliminates the need for extensive disassembly, significantly reducing SF6 gas emissions and aligning with the power industry's trend toward green operations and maintenance and efficient repairs.

The device integrates multiple core practical functions, enabling fully automatic testing of density relay alarm values, lockout values, and contact reset hysteresis, while accurately calculating operating errors and repeatability errors. The device employs constant-speed, fine-tuning pressure control technology to prevent rapid pressure surges from damaging the relay's precision mechanisms, effectively ensuring a safe and stable calibration process. Upon completion of testing, the instrument automatically stores data and generates standardized calibration reports, eliminating human errors associated with manual readings and record-keeping, and significantly enhancing the standardization and accuracy of O&M calibration.
Thanks to its high-precision sensor configuration, sealed airtight gas path design, and intelligent operating procedures, the SF6 density relay calibrator has been widely adopted in scenarios such as power grid inspections, annual equipment inspections, factory calibration, and fault verification. Standardized calibration operations enable the timely identification and resolution of potential issues in monitoring components, ensuring the stable insulation performance of SF6 gas compartments in high-voltage equipment, and providing robust technical support for the safe, reliable, and green operation of new power systems.
